Biography

Trần Việt Trinh (born 27 November 1972 in Saigon) is a retired Vietnamese actress, director and TV presenter. Hailed as the Queen of 1990s Vietnamese commercial cinema, she is the scene’s most popular actress and youth idol.

Việt Trinh began her career as a calendar model and background actor while enrolled at Ho Chi Minh Academy of Performing Arts. She garnered significant attention for her role as Oanh in “Ngọc trong đá” (1991) by Trần Cảnh Đôn, and later next year rose to national prominence with a leading role in Lê Hoàng Hoa’s coming-of-age classic “Vĩnh biệt mùa hè”. In 1996, she starred in her career-defining TV show “Người đẹp Tây Đô” as the aristocratic spy Bạch Cúc. In 2001, an exposé revealing scandalous connections with two convicted fraudster and corrupted official effectively put an end to Việt Trinh’s career and forced the actress to retreat from the spotlight until 2008. She made a return to acting and tried her hands at directing in early 2010s to little acclaim. In 2022, Việt Trinh announced her retirement from the film industry to focus on childrearing.
