Biography

Sun Yueh (Chinese: 孫袊; pinyin: SΕ«n YuΓ¨; 26 October 1930 – 1 May 2018) was a Taiwanese actor. Born in Yuyao, Zhejiang on 26 October 1930, he moved to Taiwan in 1949. Sun appeared in his first film in 1962, and retired in 1989. Over the course of his career, he received the Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1968, and the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actor in 1983. Sun stopped smoking after his baptism as a Christian in 1981, and in later life became a humanitarian known for his work with the John Tung Foundation. He cautioned youth against the use of tobacco, and drew attention to ailments related to smoking, namely chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.In 2010, Sun received a Golden Horse Award for special contributions.
