Ingredients

Cake Doctor Chocolate Layer Cake
β€’ 2 boxes Betty Crocker or Devil’s Food chocolate cake mix
β€’ 2 boxes instant chocolate pudding mix (3.9 oz each)
β€’ 2 cups sour cream
β€’ 1 cup mayonnaise
β€’ 1 cup vegetable oil
β€’ 8 large eggs
β€’ 1 cup warm water
β€’ 2 tsp vanilla extract
β€’ 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Classic Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
β€’ 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
β€’ 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
β€’ 3 tbsp whole milk
β€’ 2 tsp vanilla extract
β€’ Pinch of salt​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F. Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
2. Beat together both cake mixes, both pudding mixes, sour cream, mayo, oil, eggs, water, and vanilla on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
3. Fold in chocolate chips with a rubber spatula.
4. Divide batter evenly among the three pans. Bake 28–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
5. Cool in pans 15 minutes, then turn out and cool completely before frosting.

Classic Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
1. Beat softened butter on medium-high for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
2. With mixer on low, add powdered sugar one cup at a time until incorporated.
3. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt. Drizzle in milk one tablespoon at a time, then beat on medium-high for 2 minutes until smooth and fluffy.
4. Spread frosting between each cake layer, apply a thin crumb coat over the whole cake, refrigerate 15 minutes, then apply the final thick layer.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
